(Any FTX model using the same gearbox and differential layout.)
What the Part Does
These spur gears sit inside the gearbox/differential assembly.
They transfer power from the differential to the rest of the drivetrain.
They are made from plastic and are a normal wear item.
Signs they need replacing
Clicking or grinding noises from the gearbox
Loss of drive or slipping under power
Visible stripped or rounded gear teeth
Tools You'll Need
Small hex (Allen) drivers (usually 1.5-2.5 mm)
Small screwdriver (depending on model)
Needle-nose pliers (optional)
Clean work area and something to hold screws
How to Fit FTX6229
1. Access the Gearbox
Remove the body shell.
Remove the gearbox cover or open the gearbox housing to expose the differential.
2. Open the Differential / Gearbox
Unscrew the gearbox or diff cover.
Carefully lift it off.
Note how the gears are positioned (a quick photo helps).
3. Remove the Old Spur Gear(s)
Locate the diff drive spur gear(s).
Remove any retaining clip, pin, or screw holding the gear in place.
Slide the worn gear off the shaft.
4. Prepare the New Gear(s)
Compare the new FTX6229 gears with the old ones.
Ensure tooth count and size match.
5. Install the New Spur Gear(s)
Slide the new gear(s) onto the shaft in the same orientation.
Refit any clips or screws.
Check the gear spins freely without binding.
6. Reassemble the Gearbox
Reinstall the gearbox/diff cover.
Tighten screws evenly (do not overtighten into plastic).
Spin the drivetrain by hand to check smooth operation.
7. Final Check
Refit the body shell.
Turn the wheels by hand.
Power up gently and check for smooth, quiet operation.
Tips
If a spur gear has stripped, check the pinion gear as well.
Repeated stripping can be caused by incorrect motor mesh, worn bearings, or debris in the gearbox.
Keeping spare spur gears is recommended as they are cheap but essential.
