Key Features:
NiMH Battery Compatibility:
Tamiya connectors are frequently used with NiMH batteries commonly found in many RC cars.
Secure Connection:
The connector has a locking mechanism that prevents accidental disconnection, which is especially useful in RC cars where vibrations and movement are common.
Low Resistance (for intended use):
While not as low as some other connectors like Deans, Tamiya connectors offer efficient power transfer for the applications they are designed for.
Durable Design:
They often feature gold-plated connectors for reliable and low-resistance power transfer and flexible, heat-resistant silicone wire.
Safety Features:
The connectors isolate the positive and negative wires and have a locking mechanism, making them safer to use in damp conditions and for low-current applications.
Not ideal for high-power setups:
Tamiya connectors are not recommended for high-current applications like brushless motors and LiPo batteries.
Can overheat:
In high-power setups, Tamiya connectors can overheat and potentially melt the plastic housing.
Limited Current Capacity:
They are typically designed for low to medium current draw (around 15A constant or 20A burst).
Deans/T-Plugs: Offer lower resistance and higher current capacity than Tamiya connectors.
XT60: A popular choice for higher-power applications, known for their ease of soldering and secure connection.
Bullet Connectors: Used with various sizes depending on the application, can handle high currents and voltages.
EC-Connectors: Similar to XT connectors but with separate pins for easier soldering.
- Identify Wires:Determine which wires (e.g., from your battery or ESC) need connecting.
- Crimp Terminals: Use appropriate crimping pliers to attach the female metal terminals (included) onto the stripped ends of your wires.
- Insert into Housing: Push the crimped terminals firmly into the corresponding slots in the male Tamiya block housing until they click and lock.
- Connect: Plug the assembled male connector onto a matching female Tamiya connector (or vice versa) for a secure power connection
